Gorg Mallia is Malta's foremost comic artist. He has been writing and drawing cartoons and comics since the late 1970's. He created a number of characters, among others, 'Il-Kaccatur', 'Il-Hakem', and 'Il-Familja Borg', about whom he has done comics and strips in various magazines and newspapers, but is best known for his satirical weekly comic strip 'One Family', in Malta's best-selling newspaper The Sunday Times. Started in 1991, it is the only regular comic strip in the Maltese islands. It has a number of recurrent characters (including the parody of a superhero, 'Sgt. Valletta') that comment poignantly on Maltese society and politics.
Mallia has a Ph.D from the University of Sheffield, UK, and has also studied at the University of Malta where he lectures in Communication Studies. He has lectured on comics in Malta and other countries. He edited anthology comic books like Avventura and Il-Komik during the 80's and is also a well-known broadcaster and children's books writer and illustrator.
