James Carroll Mansfield did several, mostly educational, newspaper features for Bell Syndicate. His longest running feature was 'Highlights of History', which ran in the American newspapers from 1926 to 1939. It was then shortly continued as 'Would You Believe It?' in 1940-41.

In the 1930s his other features included 'Boys and Girls The World Over', 'Famous Fiction', 'Flags', 'Historic Ship', 'Jolly Geography' and 'Pictures in the Map'. The artist also did some comic book art, such as 'Kit Carson in Pictures'.
