Captain Atom, by Arthur Mather (1950)
'Captain Atom'.

Arthur Mather was born in 1925 in Melbourne, Australia. He started working as a printer's assistant when he was fifteen years old. Mainly self-taught as an artist, he contributed cartoons to local newspapers and magazines from a very early age. In 1947, he was asked by Atlas Publications to make a full color superhero comic book, which became 'Captain Atom'. It was an instant success, and Mather produced around seventy issues of this comic in the next ten years. He also wrote and drew 'Sergeant Pat' and 'Secret Agent X9'. With the decline of the comic book industry, Arthur Mather turned to advertising, working at several agencies as art director and creative director. After his retirement, he devoted himself to writing thrillers.
