Lothar Meggendorfer was born in Munich, Germany. He was a versatile book illustrator, as well as a watercolorist. He drew for the German humor magazines Fliegende Blätter and Münchener Bilderbogen, as well as his own Meggendorfer Blätter, which also featured the work of other important German. Like several of his contemporaries, he contributed a couple of cartoons to the Sunday pages of the Chicago Tribune in 1906.
