While being employed by a factory in Manchester, Hugh James Morren took courses in drawing in the evening. Inspired by his work in the factory, he created 'Tommy Wack' in 1968. This comic, about a lazy workman, appeared originally in the London Express, but was later continued in The Sun. Soon, the series became so successful, that Morren had to quit his job to devote himself completely to the comic. Prior to this, he had drawn numerous strips for D. C. Thomson, including 'Just Jimmy' (Dandy), 'The Smasher' (Dandy), 'Wee Peem' (Beano) and 'Calamity Jane' (Beezer).
