Toby Morris is an Auckland-based illustrator and comic artist. He drew, published and distributed his first comic at age 13 and since then drawn a couple of books and over twenty comics. He was the editor of 'Officer Pup', a 2001 comic anthology funded by a grant from CreativeNZ and meant to promote New Zealand comics. Contributors included Dylan Horrocks, Roger Langridge, Karl Wills and the comics collective Oats. He was the artist and writer of 'Pirate Technics', a comic book full of action, pirate robots, music references and zombie robots. Morris is best-known as the writer and artist behind the animated webcomic series 'The Pencilsword' or his animated editorial cartoons for Radio New Zealand.
'Alledaags' and 'Don't Puke On Your Dad'.
Morris has spent a year working in Amsterdam, The Netherlands, with the ad agency Wieden+Kennedy. He made many cartoons and drawings depicting the Dutch and their habits, collected in the comic book 'Alledaags' (2010). In 2013, he chronicled his experiences as a young father in the book 'Don't Puke On Your Dad'.
Morris has worked extensively within the New Zealand music industry, drawing posters and covers for the likes of The Phoenix Foundation, Liam Finn, Beastwars, and A Low Hum. He was also bass player for the band Batrider.
