Alain Mounier was born in Aubenas in the Ardeche, and currently lives near Grenoble. Despite a scientific background, he made his comics debut in 1977 with a short story in the magazine Circus, published by Glénat. His first album, 'D'un Enfer à l'Autre', was also published by this publisher in 1983. He remained with Glénat for the series 'Le Solitaire', that he made with Roger Brunel from 1985 to 1990, and 'Tango', a comic book in cooperation with Frank Giroud in 1990. He then began a collaboration with writer Rodolphe, with whom he created series like 'Dock 21' (Dargaud, 1991-1999) and its follow-up 'Les Abimes du Temps' (Albin Michel, 2003), and 'Master' (P&T Productions, 1998).
He worked with French science fiction writer Bernard Werber on the crime thriller comic 'Exit', that was published by Albin Michel between 1999 and 2002. Mounier provided the art for the sixth album of the Frank Giroud series 'Le Décalogue' in 2002. That same year, he cooperated with Rossi and Bonnet on the artwork of Christian Godard's interactive thriller 'Une Folie très Ordinaire' for Glénat. He returned to Dargaud for 'Mourir au Paradis', his collaboration with Pierre Christin, in 2005, and as one of the artists of 'Empire USA' by Stephen Desberg. He wrote and drew his own series 'BOX' for Bamboo's Grand Angle collection between 2006 and 2009. For the same collection, he subsequently created the graphic novel series 'Ambulance 13', about an ambulance driver during World War I, with Patrick Cothias and Patrice Ordas.
Besides mainstream comics, Alain Mournier has also worked on a variety of erotic comics under the pseudonym Ardem, starting with the album 'Les Folles Nuits de Cryptée' in 1987. He made several books in this genre for the publishers Média 100 (1990s) and Dynamite Entertainment (2000s), including 'Flo', 'Mathilde, la Mauvaise Élève', 'Valérie', 'Céline', 'Chantages' and several others. Glénat released Ardem's 'Les Trois Soeurs Darnum' in 1995.
