Jaap Nieuwenhuis is a Dutch painter, illustrator and graphic designer. Born in Deventer, He was educated at the art academies in Arnhem and Amsterdam. He has been active as an illustrator since the 1950s. He has illustrated text stories for Okki, Taptoe and Donald Duck in the 1960s and 1970s, and he drew the comic 'De Zandpiepers' for De Fabeltjeskrant in 1970. He made drawings of famous operas for AVRO Bode.

Nieuwenhuis was a designer of sets and costumes for the National Ballet and the Dutch Opera Foundation between 1967 and 1971. In the 1980s he illustrated many children's books for the publishing house Ploegsma. As a painter, he is specialized in landscapes, still lifes and nudes. He was also a teacher with the Minerva Academy in Groningen, and the Christian Academy in Kampen.
