Mitch O'Connell is one of the notable alternative artists active in the USA. He began his career in the early 1980s with contributions to Charlton Comics' horror titles. He then did covers for First Publishing and Marvel, before drawing the graphic novel 'World of Ginger Fox' for Comico (script by Mike Baron, 1987) and First Publishing's 'Munden's Bar' and 'The Badger'.

In the 1990s O'Connell worked for DC's 'Big Book' series and Topps Comics' 'Return to Jurassic Park'. As a freelance artist, O'Connell has worked for clients like Rolling Stone, Newsweek, GQ, The New York Times, Time, Playboy, Entertainment Weekly, The New Yorker and Juggs. His work can frequently be seen in pages of Juxtapose. His work has been collected in books like 'Good Taste Gone Bad' and 'Pwease Wuv Me'. O'Connell's fine art has been exhibited on several occasions and he is also a tattoo designer. His favorite designs were collected in the book 'Mitch O'Connell Tattoos'.
