Stups (28/7/1940)
Max Otto was a German comic artist. He was born in 1900 in Berlin and drew the weekly 'Stups' strip, which appeared in the illustrated magazine Die Grüne Post in the 1930s and early 1940s. Every strip contained four pictures, accompanied by comments in rhyme. Graphically the title character showed influence from Billy DeBeck's 'Barney Google'. 'Stups' also appeared in the Netherlands, in the magazine Elck Wat Wils. 'Stups' was a symbol for good manners and courtesy. Otto died in 1961 in Einbeck.
