Gürcan Özkan was born in 1963 in Kircaali, Bulgaria, but has lived in Turkey since 1972. He started drawing in 1975 and began publishing his work in Millyet Kid's Magazine and the satirical magazine Gırgır. He was a fulltime contributor to Gırgır in 1979 until 1989.
By 1980 he enrolled at the School of Applied Arts, and, in addition to Gırgır, contributed to Yeni Gündem, Limon, Ekonomik Panorama, Iktisat, Hibir and Tempo. He has also illustrated a number of books and periodicals. He works as a freelance illustrator, and is still a contributor to Limon magazine.
