Patrick Essono, alias Pahé, was born in the village of Bitam, in the north of Gabon. After his parents divorced, Pahé, his mother and his three half-sisters moved to Libreville. After a few years, they moved to Tours, France, where one of his sisters studied medicine. Pahé chronicled his experiences of emigrating from Africa to France, as well as his view on the French customs and habits, in his three-part autobiographical comic series 'La Vie de Pahé', published by the Swiss publisher Paquet from 2006 to 2008.
He subsequently worked with scriptwriter Sti on the humour series 'Dipoula l'Albinos' at Paquet from 2008 to 2012. Pahé's fast and humorous drawing style has been greatly influenced by the French monthly magazine Hara-Kiri and by one of its founders, Jean-Marc Reiser.
