Painter and illustrator José Luis Pellicer was one of the pioneering Spanish comic artists. He worked for several magazines in Barcelona. He was co-director of the El Mundo Cómico, an illustrated comical magazine, in which the first actuel and dated Spanish comics appeared since 1872. He was also one of the main artists for the magazine. From the 22nd issue, he created the double pages in the middle of the magazine, called 'Historia Triste Contada por Pellicer'. Besides his work as an illustrator, Pellicer wrote several news articles on the Turkish-Russian war, and exposed his paintings on several occasions in Madrid and Barcelona.
