Pieterse was the writer and illustrator of 'De Avonturen van Dikkie Duiker en Paultje Poon', a daily text comic strip about the adventures of an anthropomorphic tortoise and gurnard in an underwater world. It ran during World War II, from 24 March until 13 July 1942, in Het Volk, the newspaper of the worker's movement, which at the time was under Nazi supervision.
