Jean-Marc Pontier was raised near Marseille, and he studied Modern Literature and Plastic Arts. He is an allround comic author, critic and artist, while also working as a teacher. He creates graphic novels and written monographs on contemporary authors, such as the painter Marcel Arnaud and the painter/poet Max Jacob, but also comic authors like David B., Nicolas De Crécy and Hergé. He is founding member of the Autres et Pareils association with poet Olivier Domerg, novelist Emmanuelle Bayamack-Tam and photographer Brigitte Palaggi.
His first comic book work was illustrating 'Le Chevalier Araignée' by Jules Vipaldo (Iconophage, 2005). He then moved on to create solo graphic novels like 'Le roi des pingouins' (Iconophage, 2006), the social chronicle 'Pièces obliques' (Les Enfants Rouges, 2009), the short story collection 'Nouvelles penchées' (Les Enfants Rouges, 2010), 'Peste blanche' (Les Enfants Rouges, 2012) and 'Les Panthères' (2016). He also made the book 'Jean-Eudes' with Bernard Valgaeren (Les Enfants Rouges, 2013).
