Serhiy Pozniak - also written as Sergei Pozniak - is an illustrator, designer and painter from Ukraine. During the 1990s, he also worked as a cartoonist, specializing in comics about Ukrainian history.
Early life
Serhiy V. Pozniak (Позняк Сергей) was born in 1961 in Kyiv, at the time still part of the Soviet Union. In 1979, he graduated in painting from the Taras Shevchenko Republican School of Art (RHSSH) in Kyiv. Subsequently, he studied Illustration and Graphic Arts at the Ukrainian Polygraphic Institute in Lviv, graduating in 1984.
Art career
In 1984, Pozniak began his career working as a cartoonist/animator at the Kiev studio of popular science films. Between 1986 and 1988, he served as art director of the Political Publishing House of Ukraine. Since then, he has worked as illustrator for numerous publishing houses and periodicals in the Kyiv region, and also made drawings for puzzles, postcards and posters. Over the years, Pozniak has contributed to all sorts of publications, including detective, fantasy, children's literature, historical fiction, eroticism, historical reconstruction and fairy tales. Pozniak is additionally publisher and author of souvenir landscape mapping products of Ukraine and its cities and historical sights, as well as a developer of multimedia products. A member of the Union of Artists of Ukraine, he is active as a painter of portraits, urban landscapes, military art and erotic art. In 2022, he began making a series of paintings and graphic works on Ukraine's war against the Russian invasion. His military paintings have been exhibited in Kyiv and other cities.

Comics
During the 1990s, Pozniak was active as a comic artist, making comic books in the 'History in Pictures' series. Released by publisher Ukraina in 1991, the first installment was 'Obloga Kiyeva Pechenigami', a historical comic book about the siege of Kyiv by the Pechenegs in the year 968. In the following year, Pozniak wrote and drew 'Biy Bohaturiv' - or 'The Fight of Two Nights' - which had a bilingual release through Khortytsya Publishers in Kyiv (Ukrainian) and Zhuravli Ltd in Winnipeg, Canada (English). This historical fantasy comic tells the tale of a 10th-century young tanner with superhuman strength, who becomes Kyivan Prince Sviatoslav's champion against an invading force of Pecheneg nomads in the 10th century. A couple of years later, Pozniak released the contemporary thriller/horror comic book 'Kompyuter-hilʹyotyna' ("Computer Guillotine", 1995).
