Hans Jürgen Press was a German press artist and caricaturist, known for his riddle and crime comics, crowded search pictures and the character 'Der Kleine Herr Jakob'. Born in Klein Konopken, Press was imprisoned in Algeria, England and the USA during World War II, and eventually settled in a bombed Hamburg in 1944. He attended the Hochschule für Bildende Künste and drew for the press on the side. Since the early 1950s, he contributed to the Sternchen, the children's section of Stern, for which he created among others the riddle crime series 'Die Abenteuer der Schwarzen Hand'. Many of his puzzle pictures and nature drawings appeared in the magazine Fröhlich Sein und Singen between 1956 and 1958. Press is the author of several children's books and riddle books, in which the reader searches the illustrations for clues to the mystery.
