Raising Hector by Peter Ramirez

Peter Ramirez was born in Brooklyn, New York. While growing up in the tough and violent streets of New York City, he developed his passion for comics and cartoons. He became the first in his family's history to attend and graduate from college, and subsequently became a pupil of the cartoonists Bill and Bunny Hoest for six years.

After dealing with several ordeals, Peter became a New York City police officer in 1986, and later worked as a narcotics investigator. He had been working as a freelance cartoonist on the side since 1986. He retired from the force in 1991, following an injury, and became a stay-at-home dad.

While at home, he developed the semi-autobiographical comic strip 'Raising Hector', about 3 generations of a middle class Latino family. The strip is syndicated by Tribune Media Services. Ramirez was also editorial cartoonist for the Spanish language newspaper HOY from 1998 to 2000.
