Manuel Redondo is considered the father of modern Argentinian comics. He was the first artist to produce continuing stories with recurring characters ('Viruta y Chicharrón'). In 1912 he took over the 'Sarrasqueta' character from its creator Alonso in Caras y Caretas magazine. 'Sarrasqueta', the first Argentinian comic character, was drawn by Redondo until 1928.
