Rubes by Leigh Rubin

Leigh Rubin was born in the Queens borough of New York City. He began his cartooning career in 1978 by establishing his own greeting card company, Rubes Publications. His first cartoon collection, 'Notable Quotes musical cartoons', was published in 1981. His cartoon feature 'Rubes' started in 1984, originally self-syndicated. It is now distributed by Creators Syndicate to more than 400 media outlets worldwide, including the Rochester Democrat and Chronicle, the Toronto Sun, The Washington Times, the Sacramento Bee, The Orange County Register and the Los Angeles Daily News. On the occasion of the feature's 25th anniversary, a best-of collection was released in 2009, called 'The Wild and Twisted World of Rubes'.
