Fernando Ruiz studied Fine Arts at Caldwell College in New Jersey. After graduating, he attended the Joe Kubert School of Cartoon and Graphic Art. Ruiz graduated from this school in 1994 and began his career as a freelance illustrator and comic book artist. Since 1994, his artwork has appeared regularly in various comic books published by Archie Comics.
He has drawn and written for the regular Archie title, as well as 'Archie's Weird Mysteries'. Ruiz has been the regular penciller on series such as 'Betty & Veronica Spectacular', 'Archie's Weird Mysteries', 'Archie & Friends' and the Eisner-nominated 'Life With Archie'. He made the daily 'Archie' strip for Creators Syndicate with writer Craig Boldman from July 2009 until June 2011. He has also worked on 'The Mighty Crusaders' and 'Sabrina the Teenage Witch'.
Ruiz has published his own independent comic anthology, EPICS, featuring his own creation, 'The Iron Ghost'. Besides comics, his commercial clients include Ogilvy CommonHealth Worldwide, Jennifer Connelly Public Relations, Washington Press and Simon & Shuster. He has been an instructor with the Joe Kubert School since 1995.
