After her studies in Fine Arts, Joëlle Savey started out working for the publishers Bonne Presse/Bayard Presse and Fleurus. This led to publications in the magazines Record, Bernadette, Djin, Triolo and Fripounet. In this last magazine, she published her first long comic story, 'Les Aventures de Lucile et le Cheval Vert', which was soon followed by others. In 1979, Savey created the character 'Cuscute', a Breton poet of which four episodes appeared in Djin and Triolo. At the same time, she illustrated comic adaptations of fairytales by La Fontaine and Grimm for Amis-Coop.
In 1990, Joëlle Savey, who by that time was already an acclaimed artist in the juvenile press, radically changed her style. She created the historical series 'Le Postillon', followed by a comic about the life of Honoré de Balzac (text by Jean Dufaux). In 1995, she started a new series, 'Taïga', with Frank Giroud.
