'Koning Bubu'.
Belgian comic artist Gilbert Schats was born in Ruisbroek. He worked on animation films under the guidance of Eddy Ryssack for TeleVision Animation (TVA Animation), the film department of the publishing house Dupuis. He debuted as a comic artist with two short stories starring 'Koning Bubu' ('Le Roi Bubu'), published in Tintin/Kuifje in 1969. The first album appeared in 1978. Publishing house 't Mannekesblad published three further book collections in their Minerva series.
Schats has also cooperated on the tribute albums 'Jommekes Bij De Vleet' (2010), which pays homage to Jef Nys and drew a graphic tribute to Pom in 'Op Het Spoor van Pom' (2011).
