Helena Schiefer, who later published as Hella Schiefer, Hella Schiefer-Soyka or Hella Soyka, took art classes at the convent school in Sebenstein. Her education was interupted due to the outbreak of World War II. After the War, she went to work as designer in a film studio and as an illustrator for children's books. Since the 1940s, she has done numerous illustrations for Unsere Zeitung. When this magazine cancelled publication, she began a collaboration with Die Wunderwelt. She was the cover artist for the children's book series 'Benjamin Blümchen'.
