Etienne Schréder was born in 1950 in Anderlecht, near Brussels. He debuted in the comic profession after several detours. After his juridical studies, he became active in criminology and he worked in the penitentiary field for five years. In 1980, he started working in administration, before finally becoming an independent artist in 1990. He started out creating some short stories for À Suivre and he collaborated on Raoul Servais' movie 'Taxandria'. In 1994 and 1995, Schréder scripted and drew his first two comic albums, 'Le Secret de Coimbra' and 'Loups'. He also collaborated on 'Samber' with Yslaire and created the black and white comic 'La Couronne de Papier Doré' in 1998.
