Gerry Shamray was an American illustrator, graphic designer, and comic artist from Cleveland. A graduate in Design and Illustration from the Cooper School of Art, he has worked at Cleveland’s Sun Newspapers as their Graphics Editor. As a comic artist, he is noted for having illustrated many issues of Harvey Pekar's autobiographical comic book series 'American Splendor' between 1976 and 2003. He also pencilled several weeks of Tom Batiuk's 'Funky Winkerbean' comic, before taking over full artwork of Batiuk's other strip, about talk-show host 'John Darling', between 1987 and 1991.
Shamray also developed caricatures of celebrity Clevelanders for the Cleveland Press comic strip 'Cleveland'. He additionally developed, designed and edited Weekend, an entertainment weekly published by Sun Newspapers, and created promotional photos and photo illustrations for Griffin Cider Works.
