Eric Shanower was born in Key West, Florida in 1963. He grew up in Hawaii, California, Madison, Vancouver, Washington and Cuba. He went to college in California and attended the Joe Kubert School of Cartoon and Graphic Art in New Jersey, where he graduated in 1984. In 1986, he launched the comic series 'The Enchanted Apples of Oz'. This series ended in 1991, and Shanower started researching the Age of Bronze, resulting in a comics retelling of the Trojan War. Other comics projects he worked on were 'Prez - Smells Like Teen President' (with writer Ed Brubaker) and 'The Elsewhere Prince' (with Moebius). He founded Hungry Tiger Press with his partner David Maxine, and started publishing 'Age of Bronze' in 1998. 'A Thousand Ships', a collection of this series, appeared in 2003. Eric Shanower lives and works in San Diego, California.
