Sampei Shirato entered the world of manga in 1957. Soon after his debut, Shirato created his seventeen volume 'Ninja Bugeichô', which earned him a lot of fame. His comic series 'Sasuke' and 'Kamui Den' were highlights of Shirato's activities during the 1960s.
His seventeenth century situated series 'Kamui Den' ran until 1971, and was adapted for a television series in 1968. In 1988, Sampei Shirato restarted the series in Big Comic. For that same magazine, he had already created the mythological comic 'Bacchos' from 1976 to 1978.
