'Rusty Rawlins'. 

Irvin "Shorty" Shope was a traditional western painter, cartoonist and muralist. Born in Boulder, Montana, he was raised on his family's Circle Arrow Ranch. Between 1919 and 1930, he worked as a Montana cowboy. He took a correspondence course in art in 1924, and received his first commercial assignments a year later. He earned his degree in 1931 with a major in art and history. In 1934-1935, he drew the newspaper strip 'Rusty Rawlins, Cowboy', written by Glenn Chaffin. He moved to Helena, Montana in 1935, where he worked as a commercial artist for the state. Shorty Shope died in Helena in 1977.
