Mongo François Xavier Sisé (also spelled Mongo Sissé) was born in Léopoldville. He is a graduate from the Kinshasha Academy of Fine Arts. Strongly inspired by Hergé, he started out with the series starring the typical Congolese characters 'Mata Mata et Pili Pili'. The stories appeared regularly in Zaïre-Hebdo between September 1972 and December 1975. African culture and history always remained the key elements of his comics.
Between 1981 to 1984, he illustrated four comic albums with the character 'Bingo' for the Belgian A.B.O.S. (the PR department for development cooperation). He founded his company Mongoproduction and launched the short-lived magazine Bédé Afrique in 1985. He has lived and worked in Belgium from 1980, before eventually returning to Kinshasa in 1986. There, he became a eacher with the Kinshasa Academy of Fine Arts, and worked for magazines like Falanga. In 2000 he created the character 'Tchindé' for the corporate magazine of the Banque Nationale. Sisé was working on a new comic for the Kin Label magazine, when he died from a stroke in 2008.
