Zoran Smiljanic started his career in several fanzines. In 1986, he created '1945' in the daily magazine Katedra. This comic dealt with the formation of Yugoslavia after World War II. Smiljanic continued with the trilogy 'Hardfuckers,' which appeared in the magazine Mladina under the pseudonym Vittorio de la Croce. For that same publication, he made '1991', about the conflict in Bosnia-Herzegovina, followed in 1993 by the more peaceful series 'Druzinske Zgodbe'.
