Dutch visual artist Jacques van der Smissen studied at the St. Joost Art Academy in Breda, with a specialization in Drawing and Painting. Since 1972, he has exhibited his work in France (Paris), Spain (Cadaquez), Canada (Montreal) and The Netherlands (Maastricht, Bergen op Zoom). Monumental work by Van der Smissen can be found in Roosendaal, Halsteren, Bergen op Zoom, Lepelstraat and Canada. Comics work by Van der Smissen has appeared in Aloha in 1969. He passed away in his hometown Lepelstraat in January 2011 at the age of 68.
