Tom & Marie-Ann, by Marcel Steurbaut

Marcel Steurbaut made his debut in 't Kapoentje with the short story 'Drie Prinsen en een Heks' in 1955. He was present in Iris from 1960, with 'Sebastiaan en de Ezel' and 'Het Dal der Sprekende Goden'. For Ohee, he developed the series 'Pedro en Margino' in 1964. Besides one story scripted by L. De Visscher, this series was written by F. Gysen. Other creations for Ohee include 'Ali Talib' and 'Boertje' (written by H. Van Daele). After 'Boertje', Steurbaut and Van Daele created two more stories about the Boer War for Gazet van Antwerpen: 'Ordonnans van Van Gansen' and 'De Grondwet'. Steurbaut continued his collaboration with Van Daele with 'Tom en Marie-Ann', which appeared in among others Gazet van Antwerpen and Het Belang van Limburg from 1971. In addition, Steurbaut did a comic for the Dutch magazine Jeugd and several illustrations for Vrouwenbeweging, Zondagmorgen, Wijsneus and several books. In the 1970s he has also worked for Willy Vandersteen's 'Bessy' studio in Antwerp. He eventually focused on painting and illustration work.
