Karl Stevens is a painter and graphic novelist, known for his funny social observations and photorealistic art. Originally from Concord, Massachusetts, he debuted in 2004 with 'Guilty', a chronicle of an unexpected bus stop encounter between exes. It was self-published with a grant from the Xeric Foundation. The book earned him a nomination for an Ignatz Award, and was also published in France and Holland.
His next project was 'Whatever', a comic that was serialized in the Boston Phoenix from 2005 until 2008, and then collected in book format by Alternative Comics. The came 'Succe$$', a collaboration with writer Gustavo Turner. The Boston Phoenix also ran Stevens' weekly comic 'Failure' from January 2009. A collection of these stories were published in the books 'The Lodger' in 2010, and 'Failure' in 2013.
He also contributed to the 'Blurred Vision' anthologies by Blurred Books. Stevens is also active as an oil and watercolor painter, and his work has been exhibited in several galleries in Boston.
