Johan de naakte paalzitter
Wouter Stips is a Dutch artist, TV maker, writer and director. Born in Wassenaar, Stips started painting during his childhood. He experimented with all sort of applied arts during his education at the Willem de Kooning Academy. Stips was mostly active for Dutch television in the 1980s, and is probably best known as the creator of the drama series '12 Steden, 13 Ongelukken' (VARA, 1990-1995). With Han Peekel and Kees de Bree, he developed 'Wordt vervolgd', a TV show about comics and cartoons, that was broadcasted by AVRO between 1983 and 1993.
Stips has also made comics himself. 'Agaath weet raad' was published in Nieuwe Revu, and his book 'Johan, de naakte paalzitter', was published by Harlekijn in 1979. He has also delivered plot ideas to the 'Jan, Jans en de Kinderen' comic by Studio Jan Kruis. He is currently mostly active with fine arts and sculpting. His brother is musican Robert Jan Stips, who played with Supersister, Golden Earring and The Nits.
