Stefano Tamiazzo decided to quit school at age seventeen, to start a career as a comic artist. He won a contest at the Festival du Fantastique in Prato with a short story, that was published in Italy and the United States. Three years later, he was the sole Western finalist for the Shikisho prize fo the Japanese publishing house Kodansha. He teamed up with writer Jean-David Morvan and began 'La Mandiguerre', a series set in World War I.
