Charles Jay Taylor was born in 1855 in New York. He studied law at Columbia University, then art at the Art Students League, the National Academy of Design (with Eastman Johnson) and City College of New York, as well as in London and Paris. He contributed illustrations to the New York's Daily Graphic and magazines like Harpers, Puck and Punch. His book, 'Taylor Girls', gained him international acclaim. Charles J. Taylor died in 1929, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
