Smile
Raina Telgemeier was born and bred in San Francisco, USA. She moved to New York to study at the School of Visual Arts, where she graduated in 2002. While in college, she was editor of InkStains Magazine.
Getting the Sex Out of the Way
She created the mini comic 'Take-Out' which won her a nomination for the Ignatz Award for Best Mini Comic and the Friends of Lulu's Kim Yale Award for Best New Talent 2003. She was also featured in the book 'Getting the Sex Out of the Way' and in anthologies like 'Flight' and 'Broad Appeal'.
Take Out
She chronicled the serious mouth injury that she suffered in her pre-teen years in her webcomic 'Smile (A Dental Drama)'. which was published as a graphic novel by Scholastic Press in 2010. Scholastic also published her four graphic novel adaptations of Ann M. Martin's children's book series 'The Baby-sitters Club'. She co-authored 'X-Men: Misfits' together with her husband Dave Roman, which was published by Del Rey Manga in 2009.
