Panel from a comic from De Vrije Balloen.
Bert Tier is a Dutch cartoonist and illustrator from Amsterdam who works mostly through publicity agencies. He began his comics career in the late 1970s through the alternative comic magazine De Vrije Balloen and the publications of Espee, Ger van Wulften's publishing firm. Among his recurring characters were 'Jan Kneuterman', 'De Janssens' and 'Jut en Jul in de Jungle'. He also published comic strips in the magazines Aktueel and Panorama.
Since then, Tier has done marketing campaigns for Coca Cola, Aegon insurances, the Dutch government, Filofax and Hästens, among others. He was also behind the so-called "flippo" discs that came with Smith's potato chips in the 1990s. He still makes the occasional comic strip for corporate and commercial purposes.
Advertising comic. The man asks De Vries whether he uses the 'compass possibilities', though claims he doesn't need them personally. De Vries: "Of course not! You have more need to a 'Tom Tom' to stay on course!".
