Henk Tol was a draughtsman and painter from Midden-Beemster. He found employment with an Amsterdam-based advertising agency after the Second World War, and attended drawing classes from the Rex Art School until 1951. He spent several years in England, where he worked as a photographer and set designer for a while. He made a comics version of 'De Wadders' for Dutch national newspapers based on the KRO Radio play by Jan de Cler and Emile Lopez in the mid 1960s. In the Leeuwarder Courant, the comic was published with a Frisian text by Geart Jonkman as 'Bearend Barebyt' from 14 June 1963 until 3 March 1967.
Tol has made book illustrations, among others for books about the history of Schermerland, and painted many landscapes with picturesque farms and villages from the Beemster area. He also wrote and directed revues and plays, performed in street theaters and set up exhibitions. Henk Tol passed away on 22 August 1987 at the age of 56.
