Comic artist Ben Towle was born into a Navy family, and has spent most of his life in North Carolina. Although Towle had an early interest in comics as a kid, he studied philosophy, joined a rock band and toured the South before picking up a study of Sequential Art at the Savannah College of Art and Design. He made his debut with 'Farewell, Georgia', a collection of folktales, published by Slave Labor Graphics 2003. His next books were the historical fiction book 'Midnight Sun' (Slave Labor Graphics) and the young adults graphic novel 'Amelia Earhart: This Broad Ocean' (Disney/Hyperion Books, 2010). His webcomic 'Oyster War' (2010-2014) was serialized online.

Ben Towle now lives and works in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. He is also a teacher with the The Savannah College of Art and Design and The Sawtooth School for Visual Art.
