Toni Gayle, by Janice Valleau (1947)

One of the few female comic artists of her generation, Janice Valleau drew the glamorous detective model 'Toni Gayle'. This comic was a back-up story in the 'Young King Cole' comic book by Novelty in 1946 and 1947. During the 1940s, she worked on several Quality features, including 'Her Highness', 'Daffy' and 'Flatfoot Burns'. She was also a regular on 1940s Archie Comics, such as 'Archie', 'Ginger' and 'Gloomy Gus', on which she mainly did inks. In the 1950s, she drew jungle features like 'Nyoka' for Charlton.
