Born in Lomazzo, Claudio Villa began his comics career at the art studios of Franco Bignotti. He started out at Lug publishers as the artist of the medieval series 'Enguerrand et Nadine', as well as the science-fiction series 'Gun Gallon' (created by Lina Buffolente). In 1982, he joined the Editorial Daim Press, starting with an episode of 'Martin Mystère'. He later illustrated the covers for 'Dylan Dog' for over three years, and from 1986, he was one of the staff artists of 'Tex Willer'.
