Virginie Van Der Gucht, who signs her work simply Virginie, was born in Sint-Pieters-Leeuw and studied at the St. Luc Art Institute in Brussels. She created the comic character 'Teddy', which is published by the art collective BILL. 'Teddy' is an unemployed comic character, who lives together with his tomcat Jean-Pierre. In the late 1980s, Virginie drew inspiration from the artists who drew for Raw and Metal Hurlant, and later evolved towards her own style with a strong graphic slant.
