For several decades, André Vlaanderen was the graphic designer for the Gazelle bicycle factory. In 1925, he developed the Gazelle logo, which the company still uses. During the 1920s and 1930s, he was the author of six small advertising comic books for Gazelle: 'Gazelle als Redder', 'Dieren en dieren', 'Waar we trots op mogen zijn', 'Sport en spel', 'Kris en Kras door ons Land' and 'De Vier Kroonpretendenten'.
Vlaanderen was born in Amsterdam, and attended the Academy of Fine Arts. Between 1904 and 1910 he was a teacher with the Teekenschool voor Kunstambachten in Amsterdam. Vlaanderen has also worked for the architecture firm of Ed Cuypers. He has also designed the logo of broadcasting company AVRO, and additionally produced illustrations for Radiobode. He settled in Belgium in 1929, where he died in Brugge in 1955.
