Kiki Weerts is one of the few artists of the Netherlands who fully embodies rock 'n' roll. She has gained notoriety both as a performing artist in punk rock bands from the Amsterdam area, and as a visual artist with a strong personal style.

Early musical career
Born in 1983, Kiki Weerts first came to the attention as a band member of the punk rock band Malle Pietje en de Bimbo's. They played in Amsterdam's alternative venues and gained national attention through their eye-catching performance on the popular talk show 'De Wereld Draait Door' in 2007. She is now the songwriter, vocalist and guitarist of De Giletjes, an all-female trio of "lady punks from hell", whose seventies-style punk rock is mixed with heavy metal and hints of the Dutch "sentimental songs" tradition. They regularly perform in the Dutch garage and underground scene, but have also played abroad. The band has been praised for its authenticity and witty songwriting about such diverse subjects as hatred against geese, the pros and cons of the Tarzan dildo and the importance of gilets.

Visual artist
Apart from musical activities, Kiki is also a visual artist. She is not only responsible of the visual style of De Giletjes, but also designs posters and album covers for other acts, as well as rock venues like Pacific Park, Het Patronaat, The Sugar Factory, Meubelstukken and Tivoli. Her paintings burst with imagery based on 1980s pop culture and science fiction. Amsterdam punk bands, mutated giant bunnies, My Little Pony in SM gear, tiger prints, horny gals with guns, horror clowns and bodybuilders are recurring elements in her work. She is also famous for her hand-painted leather and denim jackets, worn by some of the most prominent style icons of the Amsterdam fashion scene.

Kiki regularly posts painted autobiographical cartoons or comic strips on Instagram, based on her exploits with De Giletjes. She notably kept an art diary of the band's tour through Brazil in January 2018. It appeared in book format under the title 'De Giletjes in Brazil' (2019), presented in Amsterdam comics shop Lambiek on 4 January 2019.
