Adolphe Willette was a French painter, illustrator and writer, best known for his 'fin de siècle' posters. Willette was a major figure in the Paris art scene of the 1880s and 1890s. His humorous drawings were published in the magazines Le Chat Noir, Revue Illustrée, Le Courrier Français and Le Triboulet and Le Rire. His favorite characters were 'Pierrot et Colombine'. In 1910 Willette helped to launch the periodical Les Humoristes. Willette was a friend of poster artists Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec and Jules Chéret.
