Charlie Adlard was born in Shrewsbury, England in 1966. He attended art college in Maidstone, Kent, to study film and video. He did his first work in the UK on serials like 'White Death' with Robbie Morrison and the 2000 AD series 'Judge Dredd' and 'Armitage' in 1992. He continued to work for 2000 AD later on with serials like 'Nikolai Dante' (1997 onwards) and 'Savage' (with Pat Mills, 2004).

He is the artist and co-creator of the comic 'Nobody', the story of an underground crime fighter, published by Oni Press in 1998-99. His other comic book work can be seen in long runs of 'The X-Files' (Topps), 'Shadowman' (Acclaim), 'Mars Attacks!' (Topps), 'Astronauts in Trouble' (AiT/Planet Lar), 'The Hellfire Club' (Marvel), as well as issues of 'Hellblazer' (DC), 'Warlock' (Marvel) and 'The Crow' (KSP).
Adlard is perhaps best known for his work on Robert Kirkman's 'The Walking Dead', for which he took over the artwork from Tony Moore from issue 7 in 2004 (Image Comics). He also illustrated a graphic novel, 'Playing the Game', written by Nobel Prize winner Doris Lessing.
