María Alcobre was born in Santiago del Estero. She moved to Buenos Aires in 1972, then to Lisbon in 1989 and finally to Barcelona in 1992. She broke off her studies in Fine Arts, but did take courses by Hermenegildo Sábat (caricature), Luis F. Noé (painting) and Gastón Breyer (scenography).
Alcobre has been active as illustrator, comic artist and art director since 1980. In Argentina, she has published her work in Fierro, La Razón, Tiempo Argentina, Clarín, Huemul and in magazines by Editorial Abril.
In Spain, she has cooperated with La Vanguardia, El Periódico, Co&Co and the 'Los Derechos de la Mujer' comic book (Ed. Ikusager). She has been doing advertising art through several agencies and is part of the Drap Art group.
