'Hairbreadth Harry'.
Franklin Osborne Alexander studied at the Chicago Academy of Fine Arts. He also took several courses in cartooning. In World War I he served Europe with the Camouflage Engineers. Alexander took over the 'Hairbreadth Harry' strip after the death of its creator C.W. Kahles in 1931. He continued it until 1939. He made two comic series of his own, 'Finney of the Force' and 'The Featherheads'. He also drew editorial cartoons for United Feature Syndicate, before he became the staff political cartoonist of the Philadelphia Bulletin in 1941. F.O. Alexander retired in 1967.
